EQUIPMENT

General Laboratory Equipment

In order to perform cell culture without risk of contamination, it is critical that all laboratory personnel perform pipetting competently and confidently. They should understand how to properly select, handle and operate pipetting devices. Therefore, this ‘precision pipetting techniques’ collection allows users to learn and practice transferring solutions using a pipetting device.

Unlike traditional VR experiences that rely on handheld controllers, our mixed reality training app uses advanced hand-tracking technology. This allows users to interact with equipment in a tactile, intuitive way—as a virtual simulation of real-world lab actions. Hence, instructors can be reassured that the techniques trainees learn within this collection are significantly transferrable.

As this training content is highly technical, it is designed to support practical higher education level where access to facilities is limited. Additionally, the virtual simulation is suitable for early industry preparation, including working in research environments or high-precision settings such as pharmaceutical manufacturing. Unlike in real-word industry laboratories, new researchers will develop proficiency without generating excessive single-use plastic waste or risking damage to sensitive samples.

SOP List

Prior to performing these SOPs, it is important to check out our ‘Resources’ to visualise correct pipetting technique.

  1. Calibrating a Mechanical Pipette
  2. Using a Multichannel Pipette
  3. Using a Micropipette
  4. Using a Serological Pipette
